Data for 1993, 1996, and 1999 has been developed as a consistent and reliable series following the standard definitions below. While prior data exists (before 1993), documentation for the data and standards may not be comparable year to year. Sulfer dioxide generally is formed from the combustion of sulfer in the air. This sulfer mainly come from coal and other fuels. The value represents air sulfur dioxide emissions in tons per year for each county from these point sources. State totals represent the total tons of sulfur dioxide emissions from all county point sources. See EMITPARTPT (variable 1322).
