Medicare Recipients
The number of persons age 65 and over with Medicare hospital insurance only or medical insurance only or both hospital and medical coverage simultaneously as of July 1. The objective of this federally administered insurance program is to provide hospital protection for covered services and/or medical insurance protection for covered services to persons age 65 or above. The beneficiary's county of residence is based on the most recently reported mailing address in the master enrollment record file. The mailing address is not necessarily an actual place of residence since beneficiaries may have their checks mailed to a post office or to a representative payee in another state or county. The sum of the counties does not equal the state since persons whose mailing addresses do not permit identification of county of residence are included in figures for the state.
